Social media is one of the best places to find clients, especially if you want to target small business owners. About52% of small businesses post daily on social media, so you know that they’re there, and they’re there to do business.
If you stay active on social media too and execute a well-oiled social media strategy, you will have plenty of opportunities to connect with these small business owners and convince them to hire you.
Therefore, in this post I am going to show you a step by step social media strategy you can use to get clients…
Only stay active on a few social networks
If you look up which social network to be active online, you might quickly get overwhelmed and confused. Different people will suggest that you stay active on different social networks. There are several great networks that can get you clients, but if you stay active on all of them, you won’t have any time left to service the clients you attract.
This is why you should pick a maximum of three social networks only and focus on building a powerful presence on them. Once you build a strong presence on these, you can ramp it up to five if it seems like the opportunity is out there.
To decide on which networks to be active on, do some research to find out who your target audience is i.e. their age, their professions, their location, etc. Then figure out which social networks people who match these demographics are active on and then build a presence on only these networks.
Research from sites like Statistacan help you with this.
For example, the above graph from Statistashowsthat the most active age group on Instagram are those between 18 and 34 yearsof age. So, if yourtarget audience’s demographics matches this, you shouldbuild a presence on Instagram.
Do your due diligence and find out which networks will likely suit you best. Then set up your social media profiles on them.
Share helpful content
After you set up your accounts, you should begin creating and sharing helpful content. This will show your expertise on the topic and help you build authority.
The main thing you need to focus on here is to only stick to the topics you specialize in. Also, don’t be afraid to share your best tips and secrets, as they will help you to stand out.
For some inspiration on what type of content to share, check out Russ Ruffino’s Instagram account.
You will notice that he only shares quality content on generating clients, as this is the topic he specializes in. When people read or watch his posts, they will realise that Russ has a good grasp on the topic, and they will want to work with him. It helps him sell himself on Instagram.
But this technique can be executed on any social network. You can see Russ Ruffino do the same thing on Linkedin.
So, have a good think about what your potential clients want, and create and publish content they will consume.
Have a conversation
Another way to get clients is by having conversations with strangers and helping them out. Whenever someone leaves a comment on your social media posts or direct messages you, it’s important to always respond to them. If you help them out, they will be all the more likely to want to work with you.
You can also look for questions people are asking online on social networks like Twitter.
If you type in a keyword followed by a question mark, it will show all the questions people posted on Twitter with that keyword. You can tweet these people back with your answer. And if they ask any follow up questions, make sure you get back to them.
Spend some time everyday searching for keywords and hashtags related to your industry, and have genuine conversations with people. Some of these conversations will lead to work.
Use ads to feed the top of your funnel
All the organic methods discussed above require a lot of time and effort. It can take weeks and months to begin seeing results from them. This is why in the meantime, to get some quicker results, you should invest some of your money into running top of the funnel (ToFu) social media ads.
Most social media platforms have advanced targeting settings that let you target people based on income, age, location and various other demographic parameters. You can use these settings to generate awareness towards the posts you publish on social media.
If you haven’t got thousands of dollars to spend on an outsourced social media solution, you can use an affordable tool like Yala to create your social media ads. It comes with templates, HD video clips, text animations and an easy to use video ad creator that help you assemble quick, fun video ads in seconds.
The sizes of the video ads areoptimized automatically by Yala depending on the social network you create them for. This will ensure you get maximum engagement and conversions. It also lets you resize ads if you want to use the same one on a different network.
Creating video ads can give you an edge, especially if you are just starting out, as they can get up to 20% more clicks than image ads.
Have a plan to convert the traffic
If you are using ads to drive traffic to your website, you should make sure you have a proper conversion plan in place. There is no use sending the traffic to your home page. Your plan should include a proper funnel with a landing page, lead magnet, nurturing sequence and finally a sales email that recommends a free consultation.
You can upsell all the services you offer at the free consultation and get people to hire you. But make sure you offer some great info in the free consultation before you begin selling your services.
And remember that most of the people you drive to your website from the above mentioned organic and paid methods won’t convert to leads or clients. This is why you should also use retargeting ads to get people to visit your website again.
Your conversion rate can improve significantly with this strategy, but only if you are careful about promoting the most relevant content to your visitors depending on the pages they previously visited. You can directly send them to a conversion-focused page like a lead magnet landing page or your consultation page, assuming that the messaging there is related to a blog post or page they recently read on your website.
One company that has had great success with Facebook retargeting is UPLIFT Desk, an adjustable height desk seller that sells to offices both online and via a physical showroom in Texas.
“We’ve also used the Facebook pixel integration to inform our social advertising programs, retarget customers and bring people back to the website,”UPLIFT Marketing and PR Director Brian Genchurrecently told BigCommerce. “This has helped us decide where exactly to continue targeting, where we need to allocate more ad spend and which ad formats and creative are working best with our audience.”
BigCommerce’s direct integration with Facebook’s “dynamic ads” engine allows merchants to automatically serve up ad creative which is built on the fly, based on data and assets pulled from the product pages that your site visitors have been checking out.
